“Agarrados às cordas”

“Clinging to the ropes”

This is another beautiful story that moved me from the beginning: a mother decided to give her husband and son a beautiful present. A photo album that reminds their life story as a family. And like all epics, this one also has obstacles, difficulties and painful moments that had to be faced. Helena Jesus met Jorge in the 1980s, in the Algarve, and it was love at first sight. They dated against the wishes of her parents but eventually they got married. But through a long period they had to surpass two failed pregnancies and those tragedies almost painted their spirit with blackness tones. But what could have been a big cause to fall apart, gave them strength and courage to say no to sadness. They rolled up sleeves, made plans and began to think of adoption. The process was already advanced when Helena gets pregnant again. With diabetes and two previously lost fetuses, this third time, which was unexpected, had to be fine ‘till the end. Jorge was there, every minute, day, month and week. He embraced the cause, fought for this world and the next. During the day he worked, and, at night, he kept awake to control the blood sugar levels of his soul mate. It was nine hard months, intense and chilling, until on November 9, of 1994, Ricardo was born. Oh my God! After all, life can be merciful.
The family of Helena thus forms a perfect triangle with three vertices connected by lines sewn hardly, with their stories to fill all spaces between. Of course, the difficulties did not stop there. Ricardo grew up and went through many adventures: he dreamed of being tennis player, was in the US studying away from the family, he fought for a dream, perhaps impossible to achieve and there were some setbacks. But, who cares about that? What counts is the process, the long-distance race. What good is it to reach the top with no one by your side? How Jorge said at a dinner with family and friends, “we went through a lot, like we were clinging to the ropes". This was the title that Helena wanted to give the book I made for her to offer her husband and son on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of Ricardo. "Both are a reflection of one another. With the qualities that made me fall in love with both: they are resourceful, tenacious, gentle, friendly and with a heart the size of the universe. And that's how I see our happiness: all together", Helena told me in one of the secret talks we’ve done to finish the book. "These are the two loves of my life: son and husband, two grown men who have always been by my side and made me into a full-hearted woman." There are words that crushed me as I heard them. How big is this love that unit this three human beings!

These are the kind of stories that make me happy to have created storybook and be able to provide unique moments. The book, delivered a few weeks before the birthday party, flew along with parents, wrapped in secret in Helena’s bag , and went directly to the US where Ricardo is still studying. The three will spend a special day, remembering how complicated was to reach that stage of life, with a happy ending. Because they are together, always clinging to the ropes.

5 passos para ter um livro personalizado

5 septs for a print on demand book

Conte-me a sua história. É tão simples, basta seguir estes cinco passos:

1. Reúna as melhores imagens

Giving gifts is a headache. Like it or not, in the holiday season we always end up being dragged by the consumerist wave. Aswell wiht birthdays. Therefore, I propose you an alternative: a unique and original gift. An idea that no one is waiting, boyfriend or girlfriend, uncle, grandfather, father, mother, son, husband or wife. Colleague or travel companion. I bet none of the people you know will wait to receive a book with a personalized history. It is spectacular to offer a book with your title, your photos, your words and emotions, stories and memories of a particular moment in your life or from someone you care about. Imagine that you made a trip in the summer with your family. Or your’re going to a wedding soon. Or your friend became pregnant or was mother recently. Or your child made a study visit. Or your parents are celebrating some birthday. Or you feel like you simply want to compile the memories of your life. Well, there is a way to make all these eternal and unique moments into a great gift: telling your story through a storybook book. I believe that your vision of the moments are important: it was you who saw the face of your friend when she learned she was pregnant for the first time; or when you saw your child smile when he or she plunged into the sea in that hot summer day. You're the one who's been there in every birthday of your best friend; who was next to your husband or your wife in the best and worst moments. Keep forever the memories of your life. Tell me your story. I’ll help you eternalize all those moments. It's so simple, just follow these five steps:

1 Gather the best images
First, your must gather all the pictures you want to publish in the book. Whether are in paper or digital. Put all them in a folder, even disorganized, and send to me. By email or snailmail, whatever is best for you.

2 Write the most important details
Before the interview, mentally prepare the story you want to tell. Write down the most important dates in a sheet and details, like memorable moments or dates, which you’re keen to.

3 Think of a title
The creative part is my responsibility, but you can always lend a hand, of course. If you already have a title just say it.

4 Calmly correct
After the information gathered I do the book and then send an outline of how the book will look like. And this step is very important: review it all and correct. It is now the time to eliminate mistakes, correct errors and make changes. Never a first version of a book is printed. You must read and reread a lot to the work so it can become immaculate.

5 Enjoy your idea
Then, just wait at home and prepare the surprise. Make a romantic dinner if the book is for his soul mate; invite your friend for lunch; or make a big meal for the family if the album is a biography. Believe me, whenever is the case, you’ll cause quite a sensation and the moment and book together will serve a pretext to relive memories and remember the best moments of your life and from your loved ones.
